Cubs win 8-5, but lose Johnny Evers to a leg injury. Fancy Nazi hats for sale.

The Cubs managed to pull off their second straight win against Cincinnati, but it was a costly victory after losing future Hall of Famer Johnny Evers to a leg injury while sliding into second in the 4th inning. Looks like Johnny twisted both his knee and ankle, had to be helped off the field, and then had to leave the game when he didn't respond to treatment.

What kind of treatment did he receive, you ask? Well I shall tell, because it's awesome! As chronicled by the Tribune, Evers received "oxygen cream and hot bandages with frequent trips over the ankle with the twelve pound bullet."

Yup ... forget the ol' adage of "rub some dirt on it," we get to enjoy "rub some bullet on it" instead. Shockingly, rubbing a bullet on your ankle doesn't really help the swelling, so it looks like Evers is going to be on the bench for a few games.

Outside of the injury, I don't have a whole lot to share with you about this game. Even though the final score was an offensive 8-5 battle (especially for the dead ball era), the Tribune itself pointed out that "the game was too draggy to be interesting all the way."

But hey ... a win is a win. And as you'll see as we get toward the end of the season EVERY win matters this year, or I'd be writing to you from "Make America 1907 Again," and that has way less of a ring to it than 1908.

You know what is interesting? Buying a Hitler Hat. Check this ad out from the paper today ...

Now World War I doesn't even start for another six years, so I'll give the Wick Hat Band people a pass, but talk about an awful fashion choice for the people that bought themselves a lovely Swastika hat band. And you thought that picture of you from the 8th grade where you tight rolled your jeans was embarrassing ... at least you didn't have a Hitler Hat!!!

Oh before we go, I managed to find a picture of the Chinese Hip Lungs that we talked about yesterday. Fun fact: Their manager and centerfielder Harry Lee was recently found not guilty of MURDER right before the team was put together. Kinda makes a PED suspension seem WAY less of a PR situation, as opposed to "Oh yeah, our manager may or may not have murdered a guy a couple months ago." Though I will say this ... if the 2016 Cubbies actually manage to win the World Series, I'm pretty sure Joe Maddon could murder a guy in broad daylight on Michigan Avenue and we would all give him a pass.

So with the Cubs win they move to 35-20 on the year, but didn't gain any ground since Pittsburgh won too, keeping the slim lead at one game. Game 3 of 8 against the Reds tomorrow.
