July 7, 1908 - Cubs rained out, quit dressing like a freak, and Dr. Beer

Overnight rain and slippery new soil caused today's Chicago-Brooklyn game to be postponed. In other news, tailors don't like your freaky outfits and Dr. Schlitz says drink more beer.
No game today. Thanks to overnight rain and some new soil that was just put down, the field was a muddy slippery mess. The rain stopped well before game time, but the field was deemed far too dangerous and the game was called.
Considering the number of injuries the Cubs are dealing with, the unscheduled day off is certainly welcomed. Pittsburgh also got rained out, so we have no changes in the standings to report at all.
Maybe the Cubs need to drink more beer to get healthy? At least, that's what the fine people at Schlitz would have you believe. Their ad from today's paper would like to let you know that not only is beer delicious, but it is straight up health food AND it's doctor recommended! I don't know about you, but this sounds like my kind of doctor!

I bet Dr. Beer is buddies with that peppermint schnapps guy Dr. McGillicuddy too!
In other news, there was a tailor convention in town in Chicago. And yes, that basically answers the question, "Does every profession on earth have some kind of convention?" Yes. Yes they do.
Big talk at the tailor convention was a general disdain for the "freak clothes" that were becoming the hot fashion trend. Trouser cuffs ... and ... [[gasp]] ... Frilly pocket flaps!! THE HORROR!!!! Convention speaker (and I have imagine overall lame guy to hang out with) John A. Spann said "your salvation lies in stemming the torrent of freakish garments [and] colors are to be toned down to conform to designs of greater conservatism."
Yeah ... he sounds a blast to have at your next cookout.
I can't even imagine the heart attack he'd have if his daughter came home sporting a whale tail with her sexy thong showing. Something tells me Ol' Man Spann would be R.I.P. instantaneously.
Fortunately for all of us, Mr. Lame and his boring fashions continued to lose out over time, and now please excuse me while I go do some "research" on Ellie Goulding's Instagram to see if there are any other fashion trends I should report back to you.
Till tomorrow!
