The Cubs pull out a win in the 11th and a horse walks into (not) a bar
Remember the Hall of Fame double play combination of Tinker to Zimmerman to Hofman? No. No you do not. But Evers and Chance are hurt, so that's what you're getting right now.
That said, the subs are stepping up and the Cubs pulled out another big extra innings win against the Phillies, 3-2 in 11 innings. And in unsurprising news, Mordecai Brown fires an 11 inning complete game after appearing in relief already several times this week. Either the dude's arm is made of futuristic robot parts, or he just loves the feeling of ulnar nerve pain and pitches every day to soak in the hurting.
On offense, the Cubs scored two in the first, then the Phillies scattered a couple runs to tie it up. In extras, Joe Tinker led off the 11th with a triple, and Solly Hofman knocked him home for the win with a single.
Joe is bored by the adoration ...

Without Evers (who hurt his left heel to go with his right leg), Chance, and Kling ... this was another pivotal win for the Cubs. Given this is July, it doesn't FEEL like a vital win, but hindsight is 20/20, and hindsight says every win is going to matter this year, so this was huge.
In other news, a horse walked into (not) a bar, and chose to walk into City Hall instead. I love stories like this that truly scream "this news came from 108 years ago and we still had horses walking into buildings!" There really is no more to add to this story, since all that happened was that a horse walked into a building. Ta-DA! I just love the fact that it was actual news.
In summary, the Cubs win puts them at 44-27 on the season. Pittsburgh won too, so the lead remains at one. Five more games against the Phillies continues tomorrow.
