The Cubs battled back for a come-from behind 4-2 victory and their third win in a row. Also, a man loves his mustache. A lot.

A nice win for the Cubs today, trailing 2-1 in the 7th they manged to plate three on their way to a 4-2 victory. Meanwhile, the Orval Overall Man Crush Mania rolls on as Orvie comes in to close the game out on ZERO days rest.

Brooklyn got on the board first in the 5th inning against Cubs pitcher Jack Pfiester. Pfiester had been cruising along, pitching four innings of no hit ball, but then gave up four straight hits and two runs to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

The Cubs answered in the bottom of the 5th when catcher Johnny Kling delivered a two out triple. Pfiester's spot in the order was next, and manager Frank Chance gave him an early hook and sent Heinie Zimmerman to the plate instead. The move worked, and Zim singled in Kling for the Cubs' first run.

I throw funny

Chick Fraser then came on to pitcher for the Cubs and managed to keep Brooklyn scoreless for the next 3 innings. Harry Steinfeldt then led off the bottom of the seventh for Chicago with a triple and was singled home by Del Howard.

After getting two more guys on base, Fraser's spot in the order came up, and again manager Frank Chance called for a pinch hitter. This time is was Jimmy Slagle, who delivered a sac bunt to move the runners over. A single and a double steal later and the Cubs had a 4-2 lead.

And now you know what time it is ... Man Crush Mania Time! Hey Orval Overall ... you threw a complete game shutout yesterday where you struck out 11 guys (on one day's rest I might add)? Well now get in here and pitch the last two innings of this game too!

Well my Man Crush Orval Overall did just that ... mowing the Dodgers down for two innings ... likely with a combination of his clutch pitching as well as the cold steel of his piercing blue eyes. Hey no biggie ... it's just two wins and a save in three days for the Cubs.

Look into my eyes

In other news ... If you had to choose between your wife and your mustache, which would you pick?

If you said "my wife," well then clearly your name isn't John Sphilling, because that dude loved the heck out of his mustache. Apparently John, who lived in Sharpsburg, PA, was in search of a new wife since the previous Mrs. Sphilling had unfortunately passed away.

Now I have no idea why, but women were lining up at the chance to be the next Mrs. Sphilling, almost as if this was The Bachelor, 1908 Edition. The problem was, all the ladies had one simple demand ... shave off your mustache. Apparently John loved his mustache. A lot. And the women wanted the mustache gone "because of the attention he lavished upon the facial adornment."

When I eat soup, I can taste it for days

Well none of the women who "applied" to be his wife were hot enough to sway Ol' John, until a sexy young blonde from Chicago came along (I have no clue what her name was). Totally smitten, John agreed to shave his beloved 'stache so the two could be married ... an agreement that lasted about as long as it took him to then head to the nearest saloon.

Out of the clutches on her feminine wiles and into the clutches of a shot (or twelve) of whiskey, John then declared that the mustache stays and the blonde gets the boot. Unfortunately, he then went home and chased his kids around with a revolver in a drunken rage, so now he's in jail and facing a court date. But hey ... at least he can be with his lovely mustache while in jail!

Oh mustache ... You're my one true love!

In summary, the Cubs win puts them at 65-47 on the season. Meanwhile the New York Giants swept two games from Pittsburgh to take over first place as the Pirates fell to second. The Cubs remained three and a half back in third. Game four of the five game series with Brooklyn is tomorrow, which the Cubs will do without player-manager Frank Chance, who got the boot from today's game and has already been handed a three game suspension for his actions.

Regardless ... the winning streak is ON!
